The Performance of Principals and Teachers in Student Management at State Islamic Elementary School (MIN) 31 Bireuen

Abstract

This study examines the performance of madrasah principals and teachers in student management at Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Negeri (MIN) 31 Bireuen. The study aims to analyze the planning, implementation, and evaluation carried out by madrasah principals and teachers in managing students, as well as to identify the obstacles encountered in the process. This research employed a descriptive qualitative method. Performance theory was used as the analytical framework to assess the effectiveness of the work carried out by madrasah principals and teachers in student management. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The findings indicate that the planning performance of the madrasah principal has not been fully optimal, particularly in meeting institutional needs and educational support facilities. Meanwhile, teacher performance planning includes lesson planning, preparation of learning tools, curriculum planning, and allocation of instructional time. In the implementation stage, the madrasah principal performs supervisory functions toward teachers, while teachers implement learning activities in accordance with teaching modules, students’ worksheets (LKPD), the independent curriculum, and predetermined learning schedules. The evaluation process is conducted continuously to improve the quality of student management and learning outcomes. Several obstacles were identified, including a shortage of Islamic education teachers, limited funding that does not fully comply with technical guidelines, inadequate learning media, and students’ limited understanding of the Indonesian language. In addition, teachers face challenges related to the lack of parental attention due to occupational demands, such as fishing and other forms of work.
