Publication Ethics

Wasatha: Jurnal Studi Islam dan Humaniora is committed to upholding the highest standards of publication ethics. All parties involved in the publishing process—authors, editors, reviewers, and publishers—must adhere to the ethical guidelines outlined below. These guidelines are based on COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) standards.

A. Ethical Guidelines for Authors

Originality and Plagiarism: Authors must ensure that their work is entirely original. Any use of others' work must be properly cited. Plagiarism in all forms is unethical and unacceptable.
Data Fabrication and Falsification: Authors must not fabricate or falsify data, results, or conclusions.
Multiple or Duplicate Submissions: Authors may not submit the same manuscript to more than one journal simultaneously.
Acknowledgment of Sources: Proper acknowledgment of the work of others must always be given.
Authorship of the Paper: Only persons who have made significant contributions should be listed as authors.
Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest: Authors must disclose any financial or personal relationships that could influence their work.
Fundamental Errors in Published Works: If authors discover significant errors, they must notify the journal editor immediately.

B. Ethical Guidelines for Editors

Publication Decisions: Editors are responsible for deciding which articles to publish based on scholarly merit and relevance.
Fair Play: Editors evaluate manuscripts based on intellectual content without regard to race, gender, religion, or nationality.
Confidentiality: Editors must not disclose information about submitted manuscripts to anyone except reviewers.
Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest: Editors must recuse themselves from handling manuscripts where they have conflicts of interest.
Involvement and Cooperation in Investigations: Editors must respond to complaints and take necessary action when ethical issues arise.

C. Ethical Guidelines for Reviewers

Contribution to Editorial Decisions: Peer review assists editors in making decisions and helps authors improve their work.
Promptness: Reviewers who feel unqualified or cannot provide a timely review should notify the editor immediately.
Confidentiality: Manuscripts are confidential documents and must not be shared or discussed with others.
Objectivity Standards: Reviews should be conducted objectively with clear, constructive feedback.
Acknowledgment of Sources: Reviewers should identify relevant published work that has not been cited.
Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest: Reviewers must disclose any potential conflicts of interest.

D. Ethical Guidelines for the Publisher

Academic Freedom: The publisher supports academic freedom and editorial independence.
Protecting Intellectual Property: The publisher protects the intellectual property of authors and the journal.
Addressing Misconduct: The publisher is committed to investigating and addressing any allegations of misconduct.

E. COPE Compliance

Wasatha follows the COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) guidelines. In cases of suspected misconduct, the journal will follow COPE flowcharts and recommendations.

F. Consequences of Ethical Violations

Minor violations: Warning and request for correction
Major violations (plagiarism, fabrication): Immediate rejection or retraction
Severe or repeated violations: 5-year ban from submission and notification to author's institution
