Wasathiyah sebagai Etos Kepemimpinan Madrasah

This article proposes a wasathiyah-based leadership framework intended to foster a growth-oriented environment ("ruang tumbuh") for teachers, education staff, and students in madrasahs. The study uses an integrative literature review, drawing on Indonesian national regulations, international organizational reports, peer-reviewed journal articles, and scholarly literature on wasathiyah, religious moderation, and educational leadership. Analysis proceeded through concept mapping, thematic synthesis, and conceptual model construction. The review proposes six characteristics of wasathiyah leadership — tawassuth, tawazun, i'tidal, tasamuh, syura, and islah/maslahah — as an analytical construct rather than a settled or empirically validated typology. These characteristics are linked to instructional, transformational, and distributed leadership practices through fairness, balance, dialogue, collaboration, psychological safety, professional development, and continuous improvement. The article situates wasathiyah leadership as an ethical lens for exercising authority in a proportional, fair, participatory, and public-good-oriented manner, and explicitly flags the conceptual and methodological limitations of this synthesis for future empirical testing.
