The Strategies of the Principal of Madrasah Tsanawiyah Negeri 2 Aceh Timur in Fostering Students' Morality

Abstract

School principal’s strategy is one of efforts to apply character development toward the students. This research entitles The Strategy of Principal of Madrasah Tsanwiyah 2 Aceh Timur on Students’ Character Development. The aim of this research is to find out the strategy implemented by principal of Madrasah Tsanawiyah 2 Aceh Timur in students’ character development. The methodology of this research was descriptive. In term of approach used by the writer in this research was qualitative approach. In collecting data for this research the writer implemented several instruments of data collection as observation, interviewing, and documentation. In addition the School Principal, Vice Chairman, and the teachers become the subject of this research. The result of this research indicates; 1) There are programs  implemented by the school principal in developing students’ character are as follows; a) through collective prayer, b) through tahfidz activity, c) through monthly lecture, d) through 3S program; which stands for Senyum (Smile), Sapa (Greeting), Salam (Salaam), e) through care for rubbish program, f) and through anti-bullying poster. 2) The strategy implemented by the school principal in developing students’ character are as follows; a) Producing a policy for familiarizing students on collective prayer, 3S strategies, monthly lecture, care for rubbish, and anti-bulying poster, b) Providing a chance for vices principal of school to implement innovation in conducting activity for students’ character development, c) Establishing rules of madrasah implemented by all components of madrasah. 3) However, the constraints face by the principal and teachers in developing students’ character are as follows; a) Students’ distinct character which will be tough for teachers to equalize the perception, b) Minimum support from the parents of students in developing students’ character, c) Inadequate school facilities, d) Low participation from school society, especially students.
